Today was our second day in
Dubai. We had breakfast at the hotel and then we split into our respective teams, ‘The
Skyscrapers’ and ‘The Cedars of Liberty’ and headed to the first site visit. While
on the ride, we wanted to make use of every second, so together we reviewed the
material for today’s quiz.
The Skyscrapers were warmly
welcomed by the “Nad Al Hamar Residence” project director Mr. T. R Subrahmanyam.
The project is a residential & commercial building consisting of 2 basement
parking levels, ground level plus 12 floor levels with a total of 96 apartments.
The project is still under its initial stages of construction which gave us the
opportunity to closely observe and learn about shoring systems, dewatering and
pile foundations with the help of Mr. T.R Subrahmanyam and the site
engineer, Mr. Kanniah.

The Cedars of Liberty visited the “Bright Start Headquarters” site. The project is an office and residential tower development to be, consisting of 3 basement parking levels, ground floor plus 29 stories with a total of 190 apartments. Upon arrival, the team was warmly welcomed and briefed by the project director Mr. Jihad Choueiri. Students got the chance to see post-tensioned slabs and core walls.
After visiting the site, the
teams sat in a meeting room where they asked site related questions, learned
about site drawings and the building’s structural elements that will be built at later stages. Both teams were very attentive to the safety signs present on
site and made sure to wear their PPE at all time during the visit.

After finishing our site visits,
we came back to DCC HQ, changed our clothes (it was hot outside!), where Mr.
Yabroudi and Dr. Clemence asked each and every one of us to present our
respective projects.
Afterwards, we got to play an
exciting game of darts in the office! Joshua and Michael made it to the finale
and Joshua won the first place. However, all of us got Mars and Kitkat
chocolate bars as a prize. There are no losers at DCC!

Quiz time! We had our first quiz
after the darts game. Most of us finished ahead of time and headed to the lunch
room where we had Lebanese Kibbeh, and chicken with rice, followed by lazy cake
for dessert. Yummy!
Day 2 Lunch |
Next, we went to our classroom
and attended a lecture about construction drawings. Mr. Mazen Hallak explained
to us the different types of drawings: architectural, structural and MEP. He
also brought a set of drawings for us to look at and analyze together in teams.
At night, we all went to the old souks, walked around and
checked a couple of stores. we also bought some souvenirs and went for a ride in a small boat. We finally had dinner in a restaurant
and headed back to the hotel.
